Traveling Through Tennessee

travel to Tennessee

On the border that Tennessee shares with the state of Kentucky is a remarkable area of wilderness people rarely get to see. Fifteen million acres of wilderness land is divided up by Tennessee into dozens of National Parks, each a world apart from the last. The only way to see these parks is with a personal car; mountainous with trees and Alpine lakes that themselves are a beauty to see. Driving through the area is like a visit to another world.

Overshadowed by the Great Smoky Mountains , the park is hidden in eastern Tennessee. The more remote locations in the park are easily accessible through back roads and hiking trails that border Ruby Mountains Park that is located just north of the park.  You will see all kinds of wildlife, even mountain lions, but do not expect them to be in a catio, they can easily attack and kill you, so keep you distance if you see one. Also, you can get to the Ruby Mountains Park by car, trail, air, and train.

Once you get to the park you will see grandiose sites of eastern Tennessee. Within the city of Jackson, the largest peak is Mount. Mitchell, and within the city of Tipton, you can see Mount. Nimblett Peak. Do you have enough space in your vehicle to see all the peaks in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park? If not, you might consider a tour of the park with a professional guide. A hiking tour is the best way to do this.

Many travelers come to the park to see the famous waterfall, cessation bridge, wagon ruts, and the Lost Dutchman’s Mine. Actually, the biggest waterfall in the world isHorseshoe Falls and is found in Key limestone.

The largest of the rocks in the park isotal granite granite outcropping. This granite was extracted from rocky quarries by blasting tiny bits of it with volcanic ton snails. The result is very fine granite which is used in many building materials.

The other rock type found in the park is the eralite. When weather conditions are right, thisosite-growth rock can be found in park lands. It is hard enough to break it down and take it to the surface. So, it is considered good to move along the park when it is windy.

Kilometres of trails point you in all directions. Many of these trails can be broken down and used for other purposes. The National Parks Service has !marked the trails to help you find your way.

All the trails in the national park are free of charge. But you should know, the space is limited, so reserve your space ahead of time. Also, you should know that animals in the park do not may cross on the trails. However, once again, if you have a guide that knows the area, they might go to that spot to feed in winter.

If you visit the park between Memorial Day and Labor Day, be sure to register you motor home(s) in the directory. The fee is only $10.00 plus the $25.00 that the Department of Natural Resources will require when you fill out your application.

The park is open every day, but a lot of the trails are closed during certain periods. You may also plan to visit other nearby natural attractions while you are there.
